Hummel Figurines
The quaint Hummel figurines were sent to America by American G.I.s as a cheerful memento to encourage families that were missing their husbands and fathers that were serving in Europe during World War II. These figurines showing sweet country children having a wonderful time were highly valued during the mid-20th century, but their true peak came in the 1970s. As for modern times, Mike Rivkin of Antique Galleries in Palm Springs states that they are not worth much today. He said, “Traditional collectibles like Hummel sites are virtually unsellable today. We direct people looking to sell such items to nearby thrift shops. There’s simply no market.”
