The Wrist Watch
When wristwatches were first introduced, they certainly were not meant to be timeless fashion pieces like they are today. Before Tag Heuer and Rolex dominated the market, wristwatches were used in the military for far more practical purposes. Aside from just telling the time, wristwatches helped soldiers to maneuver their movements, and coordinate attacks. Before long, watches became must-haves, and although these days smartphones always tell the time, it’s still a nice blast from the past to have something on your arm that isn’t a step counter.

Although millions of people around the world are allergic to penicillin, the antiseptic substance has also saved millions of lives since it was first introduced during WWI. Scientists worked tirelessly on solutions to help injured soldiers to recover from open wounds more easily, and the result was a magical concoction that not only helped speed up recovery times, but also countered the growth of bacteria on the skin. The antibiotic is still used to treat people to this day.
