Mount Kilimanjaro is obviously a highly revered and well-loved part of the East African people’s world. As for Europeans – they only discovered this fathomlessly majestic part of our world in 1848. It was a pair of intrepid German missionaries called Johannes Rebmann and Johann Krapf who introduced this wonder to the western world.

Further to this, Rebmann penned in 1848 on May 11 a description of the breathtaking sights he’d seen alongside Krapf. There was once written in the 1981 and epic called, Across East African Glaciers: An Account of the First Ascent of Kilimanjaro by Hans Meyer, what was known as “Jagga” at the time. The peak of one of Jagga (what Mount Kilimanjaro was called the time) was described as being topped with a sensational pale cloud.
