Pravcicka Brana, Czech Republic
The Pravcicka Brana is the most visited tourist attraction in the Czech Republic and has the distinction of being the biggest natural sandstone arch in all of Europe. Since the heavy foot traffic caused by visitors was causing too much erosion, the area was closed to the public in 1982 and has remained that way ever since. Thus, all of us will simply have to make do with gawking at this lovely monument from a distance.
Niihau Island, Hawaii
This Hawaiian island, which has been privately held by Elizabeth Sinclair’s descendants ever since it was acquired by Elizabeth Sinclair in 1864 and given the accurate appellation “Forbidden Island,” is appropriately located in the Hawaiian archipelago. Presently, there are just 170 people living on the island.
