The picture eventually made its way to Max Orchard, a gentleman who happened to be an expert on crabs and had lived in Christmas Island National Park for more than 22 years. Orchard had been collaborating with leading researchers during this long period.

To make matters more interesting, Christmas Island had an incredibly mysterious nature regarding the multiple and individual crab species inhabiting the place. Orchard was not surprised at the possibility of identifying a new species, and the email from Mark excited him.

Due to his line of work, Orchard was aware that de-extinction could happen. This process, also called species revivalism, is a situation where a member of or a greatly similar creature to a supposedly extinct species is generated by scientists.

If Mark had indeed uncovered a de-extinction case, he might have brought an endangered species back to life. A commonly held assumption is that humanity has uncovered every species on the planet, which is certainly untrue.
