This meant that the 80 American passengers and crew members’ families had been unable to find peace for decades after their vessel was lost at sea. Salvaging The Wreckage

The Lost 52 Project commissioned this salvage effort, which was completed on their behalf. The remarkable organization is committed to discovering the 52 United States submarines that were missing during World War II. In addition, the Grayback – or S.S.-208, as it was more formally called – had already been reported lost by the United States Navy in late March 1944. That’s how things were until Tim Taylor got his hands on them.
