Logging does not excite a lot of people and sometimes draws a disgusted feeling from onlookers after realizing they are downing the many lush trees that make nature what it is. However, unlike many areas, Jasper City has a warm welcome for woodcutters as most if not all families have a connection to the profession, whether directly or indirectly.
The city lies in Pickens County, Georgia, and is surrounded by a rich mountainous landscape to include Bent Tree, Sharp Mountain Preserve and Big Canoe. Many people can relate to it as “the first mountain city.

American Chestnut trees have a high commercial value and grow in great abundance in the mountain ranges surrounding Jasper City. The chestnut trees are different from the oak trees in that, as soon as they burst from the ground, they grow pretty fast and in good quality.
However, during the early 20th century, the trees faced a potential extinction as a virus started affecting the trees and threatened to wipe them out.
