Krakow In Poland
The Wieliczka salt mine is a popular spot for visitors of Krakow in Poland. Found in the South of the country, the mine is a staggering 9 levels deep and nearly 350 meters below ground. Originally used for salt mining in the 1200’s, it would eventually become an underground complex with residents. The city even featured a chapel, where believers could go worship. While mine production continued through the years, it was formally ceased in as recently as the 1990’s, now open for tours and mainly used as a historical landmark for the country.
