Burlington In The United Kingdom
Underground shelters during times of war are fairly common, and these types of locations can be found in many cities across the world. In the United Kingdom, specifically in Burlington, the government commissioned a shelter at the height of the Cold War. This would eventually become an underground city spanning 35 acres and including streets, canteens and even housing key members of the government. It was said that the city was a contingency plan for the Royal Family in the event of a nuclear war breaking out. Declassified in 2004, this would be the first formal confirmation of its existence, 13 years after the Cold war ended.
