German Ingenuity
The German geographer, Meyer, penned a book on Kilimanjaro, and had done his best to mount Kibo on two separate attempts. When he reached 31 years of age, the German eventually made it to the top alongside an Austrian mountain climbing friend. The pair could not have achieved this feat if it weren’t for their obsessively detailed network of adequately stocked base camps.

German Ingenuity
25 Years
Almost a quarter of a century would pass before a singly European planted their flag at the peak of Mawenzi. The physically more challenging effort was ultimately led in 1912 by German mountaineers Eduard Oehler and Fritz Klute. Following this phenomenal effort before the development of modern mountaineering equipment, the world of professional and amateur climbers began swarming all over the majestic peaks. Around 25,000 hopefuls attend the site on an annual basis.
