The San Francisco-born Jerry Garcia began his successes alongside his inspiring band. He was a virtuoso guitarist that featured in the “100 Greatest Guitarists” list written by Rolling Stones magazine, where he ranked 13th. The Grateful Dead would not be the band that they are recognized as today if it weren’t for Garcia’s wonderful songwriting of the acid music style. His solos were often improvised, which helped him to relax while he performed on stage.

Paul Simon – $75 million
Greatest Hits: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Simon & Garfunkel revolutionized folk-pop music with their soulful tunes and heartwarming tracks like Mrs. Robinson and moodier ones such as Sound of Silence. Paul Simon wrote those songs while being signed with Columbia Records. Simon & Garfunkel would eventually go their separate ways in 1970. Simon would later record Graceland, a song that was inspired by his stay in South Africa. The emotional song would end up being his most successful with 14 million record sales. Simon would also dabble in Broadway musical writing and wrote The Capeman alongside Derek Walcott, the poet.
