We now fast-forward to a more modern songwriter, Max Martin. The Sweden-born Martin would go on to become one of the most essential members of the pop music industry. He wrote music for The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Britney Spears and provided them all with some of their greatest hits. Martin would make it into the Billboard Charts with 22 top placing albums. More recently, he wrote music for Weeknd, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and Taylor Swift.
Allen Toussaint – $3 million
Greatest Hits: Yes We Can Can, Working in the Coal Mine, Java
New Orleans’s music scene would never have thrived the way that it did without Allen Toussaint, and neither would R&B. Toussaint came from Gert Area, Louisiana to commence his career in the music industry as a “backroom figure” during the 1950s as his role primarily focused on composing and writing music. He wrote hit songs like Java, Working in the Coal Mine, Fortune Teller, and Mother-in-Law. His other amazing songs include Right Spot, Wrong Time, and Lady Marmalade.
