History has always seen people cleaning their teeth even though dental consultations were not so frequent as it is now. We are knowledgeable of the fact that Greeks and Romans used urine as their mouth cleanser. However, other cultures used herbs as their source for cleaning their teeth and overall improving their oral status. Could this be the inspiration that led to what we now use as our dental cleaners?

Rosemary and mint were the most commonly used herbs for cleaning one’s teeth during some early cultures and is still used by many up to this day. The difference between today’s method with that of the past is that they used to roast the herbs before using. We can’t say what it takes like, but it sure must have been better than using urine. Today, we see lots of people using home remedies other than the shelved-toothpastes.
