Paid to Clean the King’s Butt
Would you take on this weird yet “yucky” job? For decades, people have seen the royal household as a glamorous abode with the finest things of life. They had money, the best clothes, servants and so much more and they didn’t need to do anything on their own. Even today, lots of royalties don’t dress as they have paid help to do this for them. In early times, plumbing was not as prevalent as it is now, though they still had to use the bathroom.
Just imagine the king’s hands being too good to clean his derriere. In early times, a special servant was hired to clean the King’s derriere after he used it. This servant was considered an official member of the royal household and given the title “Groom of the King’s Close Stool,” and was a confidant of the family. This tradition sure would not exist today, no matter the payment they will receive.
Four Suits in the Closet
Fashion is a popular trend of the present day, and there are so many options to get clothing of all sizes, colors, and styles once you have the cash. People change clothes so often whether the seasons change or not. However, people in earlier centuries had only four pieces of clothing.
People in early times only had four suits – one for each season – as they didn’t change their clothes as often as we do now. They were not comfortable with wearing anything different and sometimes even went to bed in the same clothes.
