Doubt
Excitement aside, when someone finds an incredible secret location, they cannot help but suffer some apparent doubt. Christopher was worried that by entering this chasm, he was putting himself in an unparalleled level of danger. All his fears would be washed away upon reentering the tunnel with a flashlight in hand, however, when he became dazzled by the brilliance of the surrounding walls. It was like something straight out of a fairytale.

There was a lot of moisture on these walls, too. To anyone with the smallest geography knowledge, this was an indication that the mine’s structural integrity could very well have been unstable. All that Christopher could hear while making his way down that risky path was the sound of his footsteps bouncing off the walls. He had made sure to bring spare batteries to make sure that his flashlight did not give up on him as he slowly approached the depths of the mine, and whatever secrets it held.
