Mr. Rudall revealed that this mine had been constructed decades ago in a failed attempt to unearth as much gold as possible. For some reason, none of the highly valuable metal had made its way out of the mine. So, just why had a fortune’s worth of gold been left in its place? Only a particularly unmanageable hazard could have chased away miners, who are famous for being able to withstand the worst kinds of environments.

Christopher was expecting Mr. Rudall to talk about some kind of natural gas leak or instability in the earth, but all that he could conjure up were various rumors which had floated around the surrounding areas. Still, Christopher was convinced that only a very real threat would have chased away an entire mining operation, especially when the whole mine had been created by the time everyone abandoned the project. Christopher would get to the bottom of this mystery.
