There Were No Hard Feelings Between The Exes
You might think that Anne would face an equally (or at least similarly) grizzly fate at the hands of the cruel king. Incredibly, Anne would not be kneeling before the axeman. Rather, Henry would find a smidgeon of kindness to impart onto the woman with who he had suffered through six months of wasted time. When their marriage was finally ended, Anne was handed an East Sussex castle and a palace next to the Thames.
There Were No Hard Feelings Between The Exes
You might not be able to believe that Henry and Anne ended things on good terms and were cordial. The truth is that Henry was apparently quite fond of the German lady. Their formerly icy relationship warmed to the point that Anne would eventually be called “the King’s Beloved Sister”! This warmth could have been borne of how agreeable Anne was when it came to the annulment. She would also make frequent appearances in the king’s court.
The Doting Ex Stepdaughters
Anne was not just friends with the king, but his kids too, with Elizabeth and Mary being her biggest fans. Things were not always cordial between Anne and the kids, however, but Mary warmed up to Anne while the German was still married to her father. According to some historians, Anne and Mary would continue to spend time together after the annulment was secured. Can you imagine being friends with one of your father’s many ex-wives?
The Doting Ex Stepdaughters
It was in 1553 that Mary would sit on the throne. She did not forget about Anne during her ascension and gave her an honored positioning during the coronation. During this time, Anne joined Princess Elizabeth within a beautiful carriage. She would also be a part of the festive banquet which was held on October 1 in the same year. Anne would also bring her former stepdaughters into her will, where she requested that her servants be divided up between the two women. She was assured that her loyal employees would be in safe hands.
