Long Lives
Coconut crabs are the biggest crabs on land, and as is often the case of particularly large members of the animal kingdom, are also known to live exceptionally long lives, the longest in the crab family tree. It isn’t rare for them to have lifetimes stretching 120 years. Mark could have easily seized one that was his senior!

Long Lives
We know that Coconut crabs are unthreatening, but that doesn’t mean that they are harmless. Mark’s rather foolish stunt had thankfully been undramatic.
The Ritual
While Mark had come out of the primal meeting unhurt, he was rather bitter that the locals had failed to warn him of these monstrous-looking crabs. When Mark finally returned to civilization, he questioned the locals. Incredibly, they had purposefully left out the crabby detail so that he could learn more about Christmas Island independently.

The Ritual
Amazingly, Mark’s shared experience with the crabs began gaining incredible traction on the internet. It seemed that many people were fascinated with the unusual and striking crustaceans.
