Help Finally Arrived
Noemi heard voices behind her. Two people were running down the beach, followed by a local rescue worker. Her emergency message had gone through after all. The rescue worker stopped when he saw the wolves. “Do not move too quickly,” he warned. Noemi nodded, still breathing hard. The adult wolf stood between the humans and the pup, but it did not growl. It seemed tired, alert, and unsure whether to trust them. The rescue worker opened a blanket and crouched down, speaking calmly. He explained that they needed to check the pup’s leg and make sure it was not badly injured. Noemi wondered whether the adult wolf would allow it. For a moment, nobody moved. Then the wolf stepped aside.
The rescue worker gently wrapped the pup in the blanket and checked its leg. It was swollen but not broken. The pup was cold, scared, and exhausted, but it had a chance. Noemi felt her knees weaken with relief. The adult wolf watched from a short distance, never taking its eyes off the pup. The rescue worker said they would call a wildlife team to monitor the animals and make sure the pup could move safely before returning deeper into the dunes. Noemi stood back, still unable to believe what had happened. That morning, she had come to the beach because she felt lost. Now she was standing beside a wild wolf that had somehow trusted her enough to ask for help. It felt impossible, but the evidence was right in front of her.
