Indian Head Pennies
Continuing with our coin theme we have Indian Head pennies, that were minted by the United States Bureau from 1859 to 1909. James Barton Longacre, the then Philadelphia Mint Chief Engraver, crafted the pennies personally. As the American Civil War came to its conclusion, the Indian Head penny became highly desirable. Although the pennies made small fortunes for dedicated collectors, as with the Morgan dollars, the market was overflooded with them to the point that over 100 million were available by 1907. Victor D. Brenner would make some design editions to Longacre’s work in 1901, putting former President Lincoln’s face on them.
Happy Meal Toys
We all have fond memories of trips to McDonald’s as children to excitedly get our little hands on the wonderous Happy Meal. While most of us loved munching the small fries and burger that came with the box, the true treasure lay in the themed toy. Many former youngsters would have held onto their Happy Meal collections, and indeed sold them for sizeable totals of about $500. But there are so many people that also managed to keep their Happy Meal trinkets in good shape that their availability is not a question.
