They are given the option to choose between living attached with the church or leave it and free themselves from any and all rules. However, by doing this, they will be cut off from their community and will also be prohibited from visiting their family. They are having such a bizarre restriction that forces around 90% of Amish youngsters to remain attached to the church.

There are different rules for different communities and this is why some of them are allowed to use technology to some extent whereas others are strictly prohibited to. If we are to talk about the Alona Amish community, here you will get to see people using mechanical refrigerators, tractors, propane gas, bathtub with running water, etc. without any restrictions. There are also a few communities that completely restrict the use of smartphones whereas some have allowed it.
