Eight Honorary Stars
When the Grayback carried out its final mission, the submarine was responsible for sinking a Japanese commercial vessel that weighed a remarkable 21,594 tons. During this journey, Moore was in command for the third time, and he was posthumously awarded a third Navy Cross in recognition of his actions at sea during the voyage. Following her service in World War II, the Grayback was given eight battle stars for her efforts on the battlefield.
