Finding a New Queen
Few people are aware that in order for bees to make honey, they need to have a queen. David’s plan was to move one of his own queens into the new hive, to test if they would follow her after everything they had been through.
This was a make or break moment. If the hive rejected the new queen, they were likely to die off. If they accepted her, the chances of them flourishing were far higher. Everyone waited anxiously to find out what would happen.
The First Meeting
The first few seconds of the new queen entering into a hive are crucial. David watched on as the other bees flew near her, taking a good look before making their decision about whether to follow her or not.
It looked like she might be rejected, and David worried that the hive would kill her, leaving him a queen short across all his hives. He held his breath as he waited to see whether they would accept her or not.
