Just too High
It was clear the dog was determined to complete his mission, seeing he went as far as 28 feet high up the trunk. He was no longer able to go up, nor could he pull himself from a distance it was, so it stayed there until it died. The position of the creature led the tree to become a “chimney setting” where air would be pushed upward. As such, luring insects and other creatures who feed on dead meat could not have smelled anything from below.
In addition to this, the chestnut tree helped in preserving the animal by hardening the skin and sapping all moisture from it. But, it was evident a lot of people had different thoughts and were even eager to give the animal a name.
