One of the main technologies that were used by the Mongols doesn’t have a clearly defined history. Nobody knows who invented metal stirrups, but they were widely introduced in the Khan’s army as part of their battles. Stirrups typically meant that soldiers could ride their horses with two free hands, meaning crossbows could be used even by men or horseback, and not just those on the ground. This was not something rival forces were able to implement.
