Some Mongols were trained to be undercover agents. This meant that they had to infiltrate enemy lines, which was sometimes a challenge as a result of the differences in their appearances. Hunting for information to bring back to their leader also required these men to be skilled at physically hunting as well. Often, this would mean the difference between life and death, especially when they were exposed to harsh terrains, or challenging changing weather conditions.

Although archery was a basic skill that all Mongol warriors had to master, Khan wasn’t interested in his armed forces being one-trick ponies. He required all soldiers to know how to use multiple weapons, often at the same time. This meant that he could introduce a greater variety of different strategies, making his forces more adaptable and flexible relative to changing tactics from their opponents. This approach is important in modern warfare to this very day as well.
