British officials preached that it was the responsibility of every citizen to play their part in supporting the nation in the ongoing war efforts. This meant that 18 year old Princess Elizabeth (soon to become Queen Elizabeth) even joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service to do her part.

Her training helped her to get skilled in military truck driving and other mechanic related tasks. To this very day, she is the only living head of State in the entire war who actively participated in WWII. This is a feat that hopefully won’t soon be thwarted.
