John Wayne as Genghis Khan in The Conqueror
Here we have a movie that was a major miss for the film industry as the actor is from a different culture compared to who he represented in the film. John Wayne hails from Iowa while Genghis Khan is Asian, Mangolian to be more specific. From this little information, we can be sure you know where we are getting at. Wayne wanted a little different acting after he was out in the West, engaging in all kinds of killing roles. Film producer, Howard Hughes, dished out a lot of cash for this role, and Wayne never decided to miss this opportunity. However, the film and cast were a total disaster.
The Conqueror was classified as one of the worst films ever to hit the movie industry, and a lot of critiques are still wondering how it got the approval even to hit the screens. But what could be the main reason for this pronouncement? Well, Wayne never fit in place of Khan – physically or as to how the character acted during his reign.
Scarlett Johansson as Major Mira Killian
Scarlett Johansson is a quality actress who has done many films and has received countless accolades for them. However, when it came to Major Mira Killian’s role, it was a poor choice on the part of the casting team. How possible is it for a movie to be good with a white actor playing an Asian role? Not too well! The film “Ghost in the Shell” could have been a major blockbuster movie, but the production team made a mess when they chose the cast. The big role should have been given to someone other than Johansson, and it would have been better.
Many people who saw the film’s preview and the full movie cried out to have a recast of the film. However, their plea was ignored, and from the countless reviews it received – mostly negative – the film was pushed into the category of one of the worst films ever to be produced. It became a major commercial flop even though the actors and actresses were probably famous for other roles.
