Self Sealing Fuel Tanks
One of the most impressive inventions from war efforts has got to be self sealing fuel tanks. When a fuel tank became punctured during WWII, an innovative design containing layers of rubber was put in place to absorb the spill, swell up, and eventually grow to the point where the puncture was completely sealed. This technology introduced a very important safety feature that wasn’t there before. It stopped aircraft from exploding, as leaked fuel would usually ignite with an open flame.
