As with so many other inventions on our list, it was only during the second world war that it became more heavily used. This in turn led to more countries adopting the technology, in an attempt to catch up with the United States. These days, it’s almost unfathomable to think of a national military without a fleet of jets. The technologies behind the jet are also used in commercial aviation around the world.
