A Home Hidden In The Utah Wilderness
Grant Johnson’s cave house is hidden deep in the rugged landscape near Boulder, Utah. From the outside, it blends into the natural surroundings, but inside it opens into a huge living space carved directly into the rock. The home covers around 5,000 square feet, and what makes it even more impressive is that Grant shaped much of it himself.
Grant did not begin with an ordinary construction plan. He started with land, a dream, and the patience to build something almost nobody else would attempt. For years, he lived far from everyday convenience, surrounded by open wilderness and rough terrain. The nearest signs of town life were hours away, and reaching the property often meant crossing difficult ground. But that isolation was part of what made the project possible. He wanted a home that belonged to the landscape, not one that fought against it.
