Imagining an entire neighborhood below the surface of the ground can be a rather peculiar thought. As our list suggests, it may have happened more times in history than the average person could imagine. Southport’s Underground in England is a perfect example of this, where few residents realise that one of their own streets is located right above another one from the past. As with other undergrounds on our list, a natural disaster led to some out of the box thinking by government officials. Neville street suffered heavily from flooding, so the local council decided to raise the street by building another one right on top of it.
