Alan meets Shannon at his ex-wife’s wedding. If you guessed the plot device from that sentence alone, good on you. Yes, this subplot is the standard ‘let’s win back our exes by making them jealous’.Starting out as a sincere attempt to woo Shannon, Alan finds out that she is Larry’s ex-fiance. The two are both still apparently being hung up on their former partners; they concoct the predictable plan to use each other to their mutual benefit. The mechanism of the plot device turned out to be one of the show’s cringest moments, with Alan and Shannon psychopathically feigning a moment of inscrutable intimacy at the wedding.
