Even after the invention of the vehicle, horse-drawn delivery sleighs were still in widespread usage. It wasn’t uncommon to see ice, milk, or fruit carried by horse even in the 1920s, particularly in small communities. As a result, horses were more equipped than early motor vehicles to deal with the stop-and-start nature of long distance travel. Because of better roads and less costly vehicles, the horse-drawn transport wagon eventually disappeared.
