Bananas
Apples and bananas are among the fruits that Raffi enjoys eating “a lot, a lot.” The Cavendish (also known as the supermarket banana) is the most widely consumed fruit in the world, yet the banana business is today controlled by a single variety: the Cavendish (also known as the supermarket banana). It was in 1965 that the Cavendish banana first gained widespread attention, after the previous superstar, Gros Michel, was declared extinct and the banana throne was handed over to the Cavendish. When the fruit was first harvested in 1940, it cost only six cents per pound; by 2020, it will cost 57 cents. Compared to the previous price, which was $1.11 per pound when adjusted for inflation, the current price is a significant discount to the previous price.

Coffee
A pound of the delectable bean juice was just 21 cents in 1940, when the world was at its most prosperous. In that year, the United States imported around 70% of the total amount of coffee cultivated across the globe. Today, we pay $4.17 for a pound, and if we take into account inflation, that previous price would be $3.90 today. Today’s coffee addicts are prepared to empty their bank accounts in order to get their fix.
