Reports show that more than 85 million families in the US own one or more pets acquired through adoption or breeding. Either way, they have a home to call their own. Having a loving family around gives them a sense of peace, comfort, and joy. Besides, the family members are also on the receiving end as they receive unconditional love like no one else can provide. However, sadly there are those who don’t view life this way, and if not for a Russian native’s intervention, a dog named Varya could have had a tragic end.

Home Treatments
Many would believe that all dogs receive the highest level of care and love, but from that figure of over 85 million households who have pets, a proportion of them fail in this miserably. Sadly, and this is not a secret, a lot of these dogs go through horrific treatment from those who are supposed to be their guide and “owners.” In many instances, many of these canines are abandoned, or in a bid to stay alive, stray, or run away in search of love. This situation is true the world over.

Pet Pains
The situations and treatments they receive vary, and there are a lot of different views people have as to how pets should be treated. Some situations bring the dog close to death, while others may be less serious- nonetheless, they are all abuses. One Russian national was set to discover just how cruel some people could be towards their pets when she came across a pup – she wasn’t to know how this fateful encounter would impact both of their lives…

Instead of Treats, They Get Bad Treatments
The treatment meted out to some pets is so terrible, and no matter what kind of animal it is, they are not deserving of anything but care and love. Owning a pet will help you easily identify and connect with how some animals are treated and know the difference between good and bad. Also, you may be surprised at the way some people really respond to their pets.

The Phases Of Bad Treatment
Believe it or not, some pets go through different types of abuse each day to include physical abuse, thrown out or abandoned, torture, emotional and psychological distress, and pure neglect. Dogs are made so that they should receive love and attention as their mission is to provide their family with unconditional love. All they need is a little belly rub and love. Sadly, some never experience this.

Varya’s Experience With Neglect
Many dogs only seek to receive love and care from their family, but when the records are checked, it is evident that it is not the case for many animals. Sadly, it has become a part of many dog’s lives and, like many, Varya’s case is no different as she has seen the bitter part of being a pet and has gotten the full length of neglect.

Varya’s Experience With Neglect
A Survivor’s Story
In most instances, dogs who receive bad treatment from their owners end up becoming strays either by being thrown out by the said owners or running away. Sadly, the experiences they receive during those periods will live with them for years to come and sometimes leave deep scars impacting their behavior in the long-run. They often forget what it’s like to be cared for by a human, and in the case of Varya, she knew exactly what it meant to have been neglected.

The Experience That Changed A Life
Russia is not really the hottest place globally, and the weather can get freezing at unbearable levels, especially during the autumn and winter months. Even the summer can be chilly with a strong wind at times. But generally, people know how to dress up warm and they can get on with their daily lives. However, one winter, a lonely pup couldn’t seem to make it through it as easily. It was a rough one, and the conditions were really harsh.

The Experience That Changed A Life
Cold Winter In Russia
Russia is known for some deadly type of winter, and it is not the easiest thing for anyone to get through with ease. Suppose it can be very hard for us humans to get warm, say a little fragile pup who doesn’t have the resources. She had to brave the conditions independently, and when this Russian woman found her in a puddle, she knew she had to do something urgently.

Cold Winter In Russia
A Pup In The Puddle
The winter was icy and based on how the outdoor conditions were, it was nowhere for an animal, a dog for that matter, to be. So, when the woman saw the puppy lying in a puddle on the concrete in that weather, it was really heartbreaking. As she laid there, it seemed as though the worse had happened, and all hope was lost. But what caused this beautiful little creature to be out there?

A Pup In The Puddle
A Painful Condition
Varya, as she was lying there on the pavement, looked really out of place, forsaken, and as though no one really cared for her. Based on how things looked from the get-go, it was as though she was already lost to the weather. To say she strayed from home or her family abandoned her, no one could tell at the beginning. However, if she were ever to stay alive, actions would have to be taken immediately.

A Painful Condition
Lifeless From The Look Of Things
Seeing Varya in the state that she was, anyone could say she was dead as her body looked really lifeless. The Russian woman started wondering if she had arrived at the location too late and if all hope was lost. Based on how her body was positioned in the puddle, lifeless, and frozen, anyone could easily believe she was probably dead. So, what was the next move, or was there any chance of a miracle happening?

Lifeless From The Look Of Things
The Conditions
When the woman first saw the pup, she was lying with her eyes closed, and no movement was being made, making it easy to believe the unthinkable had happened to the poor animal. Still trying to show her level of care and compassion, the woman reached down in a bid to see if the pup was still alive. As she touched her, something happened that left the woman in complete shock.

The Conditions
Hope Renewed
As the woman brushed against the pup, she realized it moved. It was quite a shocker for the woman because of the way it laid there, it seemed as though it had no life left. The puppy’s movement gave the woman all the hope she needed, and she was relieved to know Varya was alive. She decided to seek emergency help for her as she couldn’t know how long the poor pup had been lying in the harsh weather conditions.

Hope Renewed
Medical Emergency
Even though the woman was not a vet or any form of a medical practitioner, she did play a vital role in helping to rescue and save the puppy from disaster. One of the most important factors this woman must have had when she first decided to stop and help, was compassion. Since that time, she knew she had to do something, and with the aid of some caring health experts, Varya got the help she needed to stay alive.

Medical Emergency
Volunteers Stepped In
The Russian woman called for help immediately, and before long, a team of volunteers was on the scene to help rescue the pup from the harsh reality. They wrapped her in a warm cloth and quickly rushed her back to their station in a bid to help her push through the worst she has been in. They wanted to ensure they did all they could to help her survive.

Volunteers Stepped In
A Fight For Survival
Varya’s condition was even worse than they initially thought, and it was really a sad and heartbreaking experience for everyone who became involved. The vet and volunteers attending Varya noted that she was already in a deep coma-like state when the woman found her, and if help were not rendered right away, she would possibly not make it. With little time left, was she able to make it?

A Fight For Survival
Love and Compassion
The volunteers took her to the nearest clinic they could reach so she would be able to get the professional help she needed. She was finally getting the love and care she so longed for and probably had not received in a long while. However, the status of her vitals was on the low, and she needed much attention. But above all else, Varya, in everyone’s eyes, was a fighter.

Love And Compassion
Markings On Her Body
There were some visible marks on her body, and it became clear to everyone that she had been abused for the longest while. It was evident she had long forgotten what it means to be loved and cherished as the condition she was found in and the physical evidence, her life was a sad one. It would have been legitimate for many to think there was no hope, but thanks to the woman who found little Varya and one doctor who decided to fight the battle them both, hope was restored.

Markings On Her Body
Saving A Dog
The doctor, who was overseeing the pup’s health and well-being, was determined to fight right through with her. It was obvious leading up to her rescue; life was not the best for her, so the doctor wanted to change that setting. The condition she was found in was critical, and so the recovery process came with challenges. It was way more than simply getting her warm. Her organs were also of great concern.

Saving A Dog
Bruises and Scars
In addition to all the conditions already against her, Varya was also suffering from a brain injury that altered her living chances. This was a clear sign of abuse. Additional medical checks and scans showed she also suffered from an injured leg, bruised forehead, and injured pelvis. With all this against a small, fragile pup, would she be able to pull through all of it?

Bruises And Scars
A Hit And Run, Perhaps?
Aside from being abused, the medical team also didn’t rule out the pup being a victim of a terrible hit and run accident. It could have been the case before the woman in the puddle discovered her. Her early rescue may be one of the positive sides to help save her life, but there was so much more to her critical recovery.

A Hit And Run Perhaps
A Decision To Be Made
With all the negative forces going against her successful recovery, the medical team at the center knew they had to make an urgent decision on what the next approach would be. Varya’s condition was critical. After quick thinking and deliberation, the decision was made for her to be transferred to a larger hospital with more resources for her to have surgery.

A Decision To Be Made
Her Life – A Major Concern
The team’s decision would be the only hope they had of trying to save her life from the worst she has been through. When the time came for her to be transferred, the team of volunteers who took care of her was heartbroken as they took care of her as though she was their own. They felt really sorry for her but were willing to do everything to save her.

Her Life A Major Concern
The Saving Mission
Varya, like many other animals they have rescued, felt like a household pet for them as they cherished every moment they got to care for her. So, with surgery being the only option on the table, they knew this was the last hope to try and rescue the pup from death. Even though she was going through so much, they still hoped that she could pull through successfully.

The Saving Mission
High Medicine Dosage
Before the decision was made to transfer her, they had to ensure her conditions were stabilized before going through the hassle of traveling. She had to be given a high dosage of safe stabilizing medication, which would help make the surgery more successful. Her survival depended on it, and if she were transferred in the state she was brought to the center, she would probably not have made it.

High Medicine Dosage
Varied Medications
The pup had to be given various medications to help position her for the journey ahead – her major life-changing surgery. With a combination of medications like pain killers, antibiotics, I-V fluids, and blood transfusions, little Varya was now on her way to being strong enough to be transported to her surgery table. Her life was now on a path to becoming better with a few other technical hands touching her.

Varied Medications
A Technical Moment
After she was fully stabilized and now safe to travel, she was taken to the other hospital where she underwent surgery to help keep her alive. The first surgery went through some of the most serious harms, and after seeing the outcome, they wondered what the next move be. Was the single surgery enough, or would she need another?

A Technical Moment
A Surgery Of Life Or Death
Unlike many other surgeries that the team had done on animals before, this took an average of 2.5 hours – longer than most they have conducted. After all, it was a critical case that had to have focus and technicality above all else. Bear in mind, this surgery involved more than simply clipping their ears or some of the other minor surgeries you have might have heard of. This was a matter of life or death for a fighting puppy.

A Surgery Of Life Or Death
The Life A Dog Deserves
The doctors put everything they possibly could into the surgery so Varya could come out victorious. They managed to repair her fractured leg, but there was not much the team could do for the brain injury but help Varya self-heal in this area. The brain recovery was dependent on how well Varya was treated and attended to in her recovery medical center. So with little obstacles now in her way, she was on the road to recovery.

The Life A Dog Deserves
Ready For Recovery
After going through what she already had, the road to recovery was probably the easiest as Varya knew the importance of fighting hard. She showed the highest level of strength in surviving and worked with her medical team to help her to recover and live the life she fully deserves. After the surgery was completed and recovery started, it was evident she was doing much better than when she was initially brought in.

Ready For Recovery
Three months after her surgery and recovery began, Varya was ready to take on the world by storm and live the life a dog truly deserves. However, as was expected, she was a little nervous in her new environment and had stopped eating for a few days. But with patience and unconditional love towards her, she bounced back and is now living her best life, thanks to the compassion and care of one stranger and thanks to the team who put their all into making her the happy doggy she is today.
