The fossils discovered in Argentina were considered to be very important. One of the archaeologists on the team, Pablo Messineo, noted that the discovery of the four animals (who seemingly died together), would clear the way for extensive research to be carried out. In the process, they would highlight new details not yet known to anyone. To ensure they were on the right track with their investigations, they carried out DNA testing on the samples.
