The Smiths became aware of a hanging section of the tree’s bark as they neared the tree. It was then that Kyle began barking intensely. Mr. Smith then tiptoed towards the suspicious space, reaching slowly for the bark and tearing it away as his heartbeat furiously. Now that the hollow was exposed, he gazed into the shadowy spot, peering deeply into the gloom. Something shocked him, and he leaped backward. He suddenly wished that he had found drugs instead of the disturbing thing that awaited him.

Kyle knew that he was not dealing with drugs, having worked with all manner of illicit substances for most of his life. He stayed in a state of deep focus as he patiently waited for his next instruction. But both human and dog were stumped, as both the retired police officer and ordinary civilian alike were unsure what they were dealing with. They were committed to bringing this mystery to light, however, standing their ground to better make sense of the situation.
