Marshall Islands Pacific Proving Grounds

The United States of America carried out 67 nuclear explosive tests at a number of places around the Marshall Islands between the years 1946 and 1962. These tests included detonations of nuclear weapons. The region was left in such ruins by the nuclear fallout that some regions have been ruled unsafe for any human habitation, including the residents of the islands, who are prohibited from returning to their original homes.
