Christmas Island, despite having a wintery title, is truthfully a tiny tropical island located in the Indian Ocean, in between Australia and Indonesia. As you can see from its place on the world map, it is closer to Indonesia.

Mark had immigrated to Christmas Island some three years in the past, becoming another member of its miniscule 1,400 strong population. His initial intention was not to become a permanent resident, but his budding adoration for the island changed his mind. Perhaps his affection would have been lessened if he knew the monstrous reality that lay waiting for him.
Adventure Time
Mark awakened at the crack of dawn to greet the usual gorgeous sunrise that Christmas Island is famous for. He put on his adventure gear, brewed a cup of strong coffee, and began mentally preparing himself for the awesome Saturday that he and David had planned.

He scoffed down his breakfast and then departed with a rucksack and a smile. Mark was totally oblivious to the change of scene that nature had planned for him.
