Uncle Tupelo might not be as well known as many of the other bands in this list, but the alternative country-rock band still made a fantastic contribution to modern music with tracks like “New Madrid” and “Moonshiner”. But when Jay Farrar, the band’s co-songwriter, made his departure to join Son Volt, the band could not recover. Instead, the still loyal members metamorphosized into Wilco. Despite the tensions between the band, there was also the fact that Jeff Tweedy was trying something with Farrar’s wife.
