Even the legendary successes of “Hotel California” could not save The Eagles from exhaustion and substance abuse. It was when Glenn Frey and Don Healy began utilizing the band to push their political campaign that Don Felder reached his breaking point. Felder would snap when a senate campaign out of California entered their backstage before a concert and would begin mocking the candidate. This would not sit well with Frey, and he would begin a spat with Felder during the performance. Frey would turn his back on Felder after this dramatic display, giving attorneys credit for the band’s final live album.
