We all love music. Whether it is thrashing heavy metal, or romantic 90s R&B, everyone has that genre that really sets the mood and brightens up their day. Then there are the biggest rock bands of our time. The ones that defined whole generations, sub-genres and all manner of rebellious attitudes. If you found rock too hard and intense, there is nothing wrong with pop, as some of the best bands of our time happily fitted into the mainstream. But regardless of their genre, many bands have suffered dramatic breakups. Fame can really get to people’s heads, while others decide that they want to do something else with their lives.
When The Smashing Pumpkins Were Overwhelmed By Success
The Smashing Pumpkins might have begun with soft rock, but their guitar-fueled ballads became something of a force to be reckoned with later in their career. A song like Siamese Dream would be something of a forced experience, with Billy Corgan playing so many instruments that his bandmates would only become even warier of him. Then there was D’Arcy Wretzky, the band’s bassist, whose personal life was becoming unmanageable.
In 1998, the band released Adore, an album that would be comparatively darker and would be fused with electronica. Corgan would then reveal that Smashing Pumpkins were disbanding during a live interview on the radio on May 23, 2000. By the end of the year, they were no more.
The Pixies Were Brutally Ended By Black Francis
Back in 1993, no one expected that the Pixies would break up, not even the band’s members! Well, not all of them, as Black Francis decided to end their time together in a rather off-hand manner. He decided that a simple fax was appropriate. Francis would reveal to BBC Radio during an interview that he personally made the decision without consulting his fellow members. Francis could no longer manage the anxiety that promoting the band was causing him. Ironically, the band would continue to grow in popularity following their sudden ending, which would eventually lead to a 2004 reunion.
