The Kitchen Was Made From Things Others Threw Away

The kitchen ran along one wall, but it had enough for daily life. There was a small sink, a compact fridge, open shelves, and a narrow counter that also worked as a breakfast bar. Mark avoided heavy cabinets because they cost more and made the room feel smaller. Open shelves were lighter, cheaper, and easier to build with the leftover wood he already had.

Almost every piece had a past. The counter came from an old school table. The sink came from a renovation job. The tiles behind the cooking area were leftovers from different projects, but Mark arranged them so they looked deliberate. His daughter helped decide where the breakfast bar should go, and even though it only had two stools, it became one of the most important places in the house. It was where they ate, talked, and started each morning together.
