It was an episode of Pioneer Woman that got Ree Drummond in trouble back in 2012. At the time, social media wasn’t the beast that it became a couple of years later. When the episode reaired in 2017, viewers were outraged by her culturally insensitive remarks, all related to a plate of chicken wings.
In the scene in question, she serves her family with spicy Asian wings as a “joke”, after they issue retorts for her having done so in the first place. Replacing them with American wings shortly after, with a “I wouldn’t do that to you!”, viewers were disgusted. Needless to say, the Food Network dialed up their Asian culture and cuisine shows shortly after, and the rest is history.
