The North African Campaign spanned three years, from June 1940 to May 1943. The Allied and Axis powers squared off in the Libyan and Egyptian deserts, hoping to capture the territory as part of a larger strategy to gain a foothold over the war.

Once the U.S entered the war at the end of 1941, Britain and Canada followed suit and hundreds of additional soldiers were deployed to the region. As this picture shows, one Canadian soldier (as with so many) needed a regular haircut over the span of the many years stationed in the area for the battle.
