A little known fact about the war relates to the importance of North Africa and the region being a consistent space for battles between Allied forces and their enemies. Over the course of three years, the so-called North African Campaign saw the loss of many soldiers lives.

Libya was still an Italian colony when WWII broke out, and Egypt was a well established British colony since 1882. The picture here is an Allied plane, hovering over the Egyptian pyramids. After the Italy declared war on the Allies, the region was riddled with warfare as the two armies tried to control the region.
