Although millions of people around the world are allergic to penicillin, the antiseptic substance has also saved millions of lives since it was first introduced during WWI. Scientists worked tirelessly on solutions to help injured soldiers to recover from open wounds more easily, and the result was a magical concoction that not only helped speed up recovery times, but also countered the growth of bacteria on the skin. The antibiotic is still used to treat people to this day.
