Silent walk by the river
In the park, we walked along the riverbank, watching the ducks glide across the water. Normally, Tim loved to imitate them with his amused quacking, but this time he just stared at them in silence. I tried to strike up a conversation, but his gaze remained fixed on the animals. I wanted to guess his thoughts, but any words seemed intrusive. Jeff and I exchanged apprehensive glances, not knowing how we could reach him.

Turning down ice cream
Since ice cream has always been Tim’s favorite treat, I thought I could cheer him up. “Do you want the usual, champ?” I asked, offering him a cone of his favorite flavor. But he just shook his head, hardly looking at me. That was unusual for him. While I was thinking about what to do, Jeff suggested: “How about we go to the arcade afterwards?” I nodded in agreement, hiding my frustration. Something was clearly bothering Tim, and I was determined to find out why.
