A peculiar spin on the standard awkward triangle plot device, Alan, continually doubting his chances of finding love, meets Paula in a nightclub. He is immediately infatuated and things seem set to go well. Paula reveals that she was a man who underwent gender reassignment. In a remarkably open-minded moment, Alan is able to see past this and is happy to continue the relationship. Predictable absurdity then strikes by way of Paula’s second confession. She would prefer to have an open relationship. Paula, ne’ Paul’s ex-wife Rachel joins in and Alan gets involved with her in the spirit of the non-committal relationship status he finds himself in.
